In 2025, Jantex Furnishings proudly celebrates an incredible milestone — 50 years of trading in Congleton. Since 1975, we’ve been helping customers transform their homes and businesses with high-quality carpets, blinds, fabrics, and flooring — all backed by expert advice and friendly, personal service.

Founded by Bernard McDonough, a man who devoted over 65 years to the textile and furnishings industry, Jantex was built on three simple but enduring principles: quality, service, and value for money. Over the past five decades, we’ve helped thousands of customers choose the right carpets, flooring, blinds, and fabrics — always with a personal touch.

Those values remain firmly in place today, now under the leadership of Bernard’s daughter, Janet, who proudly continues in her father’s footsteps, ensuring that Jantex stays true to its family roots and community spirit.

A Beautiful Mill with a Rich History

Jantex is based in one of Congleton’s landmark buildings, Grade II-listed Salford Mill — a proud and prominent part of the town’s industrial heritage. Our beautiful showroom is located in one of the town’s older mills, which holds a fascinating piece of local history: it was once the site of a suffragette meeting led by Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy. A commemorative plaque outside the building proudly recognises this important moment — a reflection of the enduring spirit of independence and progress that still lives on in our walls.

More Than Just a Shop

When a business lasts 50 years in the same town, its impact stretches far beyond what people see on the surface. Yes, we supply high-quality furnishings. But we’ve also become a familiar part of everyday life in Congleton — helping people improve their homes, businesses, employ local trades, and support the community in ways that go unnoticed but matter deeply.

Homes, Schools & Commercial Spaces

From family living rooms to classrooms and office floors, we’ve provided expert guidance and specialist products for all types of interiors. Our contract flooring ranges and installation know-how have made us a go-to provider for commercial premises, including schools, offices, and public buildings. Whether it’s a new build or a renovation, our experience ensures a smooth and professional finish every time.

A Local Employer, A Local Economy

Over the years, Jantex has employed local people, many of whom still live just down the street. The wages we’ve paid have helped pay mortgages, fund educations, and put food on family tables. But what’s less obvious is the ripple effect: our employees spend their earnings at local shops, support local tradespeople, and raise families who grow up here. That kind of economic circulation helps keep towns like ours thriving.

Training, Mentorship & First Chances

For many, Jantex was their first job. We’ve trained apprentices, helped people re-enter the workforce, and watched young talent grow into seasoned professionals. Some moved on to start their own businesses; others stayed and became part of the Jantex family for decades. It’s a quiet form of education — not in classrooms, but on shop floors and in offices — that helps build a stronger, more skilled community.

Supporting Congleton Through the Years

Over the decades, Jantex has quietly supported local schools, charities, events, and sports teams. We believe in giving back to the town that has supported us, not for recognition, but because it’s the right thing to do. Being a part of Congleton means being part of its success, spirit, and community life.

Generations of Trust

Many of our long-standing customers will remember Bernard welcoming them into the showroom years ago. In fact, he sold carpets and furnishings to generations of families, and today, it’s not uncommon for their children and grandchildren to come through our doors. That kind of multi-generational trust is incredibly special, and we never take it for granted.

Proud of a Rare Milestone

Reaching 50 years in business is something to be truly proud of, especially when you consider that only around 1.5% of businesses in the UK make it to this milestone. That fact only deepens our gratitude to our customers, staff (past and present), and our wider community, all of whom have played a part in making this achievement possible.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate 50 years in business, we do so with immense gratitude to our customers, our staff (past and present), and the community that made it all possible.

We remain committed to the same principles Bernard instilled in Jantex from day one: quality, service, and value for money. Whether you’re choosing new carpets, blinds, curtains, fabrics, wood or vinyl flooring, or luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), we’re here to help — just as we’ve always been.

From our family to yours: thank you for 50 wonderful years. Here’s to the next chapter.
